Food Adventures of Oxford and Elgin County! Woodstock and Aylmer.
Every year we make the trek to Pinecroft’s Green Frog Tea Room as a special day trip.
Located just outside of Aylmer, Ontario it is located in the middle of a Carolina Forest this Café/Tea Room and Pottery Shop is my happy place. We always make a day of it with stops along the way.
This year as every year our first stop is Gunn’s Hill Artisan Cheese located just south of Woodstock off of Hwy 59. Gunn’s Hill makes their cheese at this location as well as a store where you can purchase 5 Brothers Smoked and Regular, Dark Side of the Moo, Tipsy, fresh Cheese Curds and many more. When we arrived they were busy making Cheese Curds which we could watch this creation through the windows. Gunn’s Hill also creates Crossroads Farms Sheep Gouda, Sheep Milk Shepherd’s Harvest, Buffalo Bliss and Elgin Buffalo Gouda. Visit Gunn’s Hill Artisan Cheese to experience the unique area and most importantly, simply enjoy wonderfully delicious artisan cheeses.
With our cooler bag filled with variety of cheese and fresh Cheese Curds we are off to Pinecroft’s Green Frog Tea Room for lunch on the patio. This restaurant is one of my favourites. Their patio is located in the middle of a Carolina Forest, between the log cabin which is the main restaurant and a pond. Each patio set has its own terrace. This is an idyllic place to enjoy good home cooked food and good company. The trees which grow 100s of feet towards the sky filter the sunlight coming through the leaves and provide lots of shade. There are hostas and streams with waterfalls throughout the property. After a delicious lunch and shopping for pottery, created onsite, there are trails throughout the property and there is even one that you can discover the Green Frog statue, the namesake of the restaurant and trails that pass by the pond. Make sure you put a couple of hours into your itinerary for this place.
Stay tuned for Part 2 of this day trip!
